Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has disclosed his reasoning for declining to adopt Galatasaray's number nine jersey, electing instead to retain his number 45 shirt for the forthcoming season.
Osimhen joined the Turkish club on a permanent basis following a productive loan period and has rapidly emerged as an integral player within the squad.
His performances have garnered considerable supporter appreciation and solidified his standing as a central attacking figure at the institution.
The striker was anticipated to assume the number nine shirt, traditionally reserved for the club's leading offensive players and previously connected with Mauro Icardi.
Instead, Osimhen chose to persist with number 45, the digit he has worn since his arrival.
In addressing his preference, Osimhen attributed the retention decision to the number's positive association with his performances at the club, expressing confidence that the shirt has furnished him with fortune.
He indicated his intention to continue utilising the same designation despite potential commercial considerations that might favour higher visibility through a more prestigious number.
Since his permanent transition from Napoli, Osimhen has positioned himself as a valued figure among supporters, contributing decisive goals and consistent performances for the Yellow-Reds.
He recently netted during Galatasaray's 3-3 pre-season draw against Rennes in Istanbul as the club pursued preparatory objectives ahead of the competitive season.
Osimhen will pursue continuation of his strong output as Galatasaray pursues domestic title defence and intensive participation in the new campaign.
