Afrobeats artist Davido has directed sharp criticism at former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, characterising him as a political novice who entered public life by chance, during a heated exchange conducted on social media.

The dispute originated when the former aide mocked the musician's Grammy Award record online, questioning the artist's award tally relative to his own primary election performance.

In response, the singer dismissed the criticism, maintaining that his accomplishments extend well beyond formal recognition, citing sold-out venues, substantial streaming figures, international influence, and widespread audience engagement across continents.

The musician subsequently redirected his response toward the former aide's political career, contending that despite eight years serving within the previous presidential administration, the aide failed to achieve meaningful impact within his own constituency.

He argued that despite government backing, the former aide struggled to secure sufficient community support, characterising him as someone who entered politics without genuine standing and failed to improve conditions within his economically disadvantaged community despite years of proximity to power.

The artist concluded his remarks by contrasting their respective achievements, suggesting he would continue inspiring younger generations while his rival awaited future government opportunities.

This exchange represents the latest development in an ongoing public dispute between the two figures, which originated over the upcoming Osun State governorship election.

The former aide had earlier predicted electoral defeat for the musician's uncle, the incumbent governor, in the August 15 poll, prompting the artist to defend his family and escalate the online confrontation.
