Troops from the 82 Division/Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, working alongside Department of State Services operatives, have apprehended a suspected commander of a kidn@pping syndicate and recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 133 rounds of ammunition from a concealed cache in Enugu State.

The breakthrough was announced on Monday by Lt. Col. Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 82 Division.

The suspect was captured during an intelligence-driven operation in the Gariki General Area of Enugu State, part of ongoing efforts to dismantle a criminal network implicated in the @bduction of two individuals in Udi Local Government Area on August 2, 2026.

The arrest followed an earlier operation in which troops neutralised one syndicate member and apprehended another.

Information obtained from the arrested suspect enabled identification of the fleeing commander and pinpointing of the group's hidden arms storage.

Troops intensified pursuit based on this intelligence, eventually tracking and intercepting the fleeing syndicate commander as he attempted to flee Enugu State.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect has links to numerous kidn@pping operations spanning the South-East and North-Central regions.

Authorities recovered US$1,000, N785,900 in cash, and additional incriminating materials from the suspect.

Intelligence gained during interrogation directed troops to Umuchingu Ujenike Forest, where the syndicate had allegedly stashed their weapons.

The recovery operation yielded four AK-47 rifles, seven AK-47 magazines and 133 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the forest hideout.

The arrested suspect continues undergoing interrogation to support ongoing operations targeting other syndicate members and their associates.

The Army characterised the operation as evidence of intelligence-led joint operations' effectiveness in dismantling organised criminal networks and removing their access to weapons and hideouts.

Operation UDO KA stated its commitment to sustained collaboration with other security agencies to counter criminal activity across the South-East, pledging continued pursuit of those threatening peace and security while fostering conditions for economic and social development in the region.
