The Nigerian Army has initiated an application process for the Short Service Combatant Commission Course 50/2027, welcoming applications from qualified civilians and serving military personnel.

The recruitment notice issued on Tuesday invited eligible Nigerians to pursue commission as SSCC officers.

Successful applicants will serve within Combat Arms divisions including Infantry and Armour Corps, alongside Combat Support Arms comprising Artillery, Engineers, Signals and Intelligence specialisations.

The application window commenced on Friday, August 14, 2026, and extends until Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Prospective candidates must satisfy several eligibility criteria. Applicants must possess Nigerian citizenship by birth and fall within the age range of 23 to 27 years as of January 10, 2027.

Medical, mental and physical fitness assessments according to military standards are mandatory. Male applicants must attain minimum height of 1.68 metres whilst female applicants must reach 1.65 metres.

Academic qualifications require possession of at least a first degree with minimum Second Class Lower Division classification or Higher National Diploma with Lower Credit standing in arts, sciences or humanities disciplines from accredited tertiary institutions.

Only academic credentials obtained between 2018 and the present receive consideration.

Civilian applicants must provide NYSC discharge documentation whilst serving military personnel must present NYSC exemption certificates.

Civilian candidates must secure institutional attestation letters from degree-awarding establishments and obtain recommendations from at least two qualified referees meeting specified standards.

Applicants must not carry criminal convictions, hold membership in cult or secret organisations, or possess body inscriptions or tattoos.

The application portal is accessible through the Nigerian Army recruitment website, where candidates select the SSCC option and indicate their military service status.

Registration requires email verification, following which applicants establish credentials and complete application documentation including recent passport photographs, educational certificates, origin documentation, birth certificates or age declarations, NIN slips and BVN information.

SSCC commissions extend for 15 years encompassing 10 years on the active list as initial bonding requirements.

Subsequent renewal extends for periods not exceeding five years. SSCC officers retain conversion opportunities to Regular Combatant Commission status, though such conversion remains non-automatic and contingent upon available vacancies and applicable criteria satisfaction.

The Army warned the public to disregard unauthorised online portals or announcements preceding official notification, directing applicants to rely exclusively on information distributed through official Army channels.

All applications must reach submission before October 17, 2026, with the recruitment process entirely cost-free.
