Nigerian troops have secured a major breakthrough after responding to an attack on travellers along a Kogi highway.

The Nigerian Army has successfully retrieved nine abducted commuters following an operation along the Ajaokuta–Itobe Road in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Troops stationed at Patrol Base Itobe responded to reports of an att@ck on travellers and discovered two abandoned vehicles a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Sienna positioned beside the roadway with passengers unaccounted for.
Military personnel initiated pursuit operations tracing the route of the fleeing abductors toward the periphery of Adumu Community in Dekina Local Government Area.
Troops engaged the suspected kidn@ppers in g¥nfire, overwhelming them through superior firepower and compelling them to release their captives before retreating into surrounding vegetation with apparent g¥nshot injuries.
The rescued group comprised nine individuals: two elderly men, two elderly women, four adult males and one infant.
Victims were moved to safety and transferred to Nigeria Police at Itobe Area Command for documented processing and family reunification procedures.
The Army indicated that pursuit of the escaped suspects continues whilst coordinated search operations progress to identify additional victims and apprehend those responsible for the att@ck.
Military leadership urged public cooperation through provision of timely and reliable intelligence enabling rapid response to criminal incidents.
