The Sokoto State Government has approved N1.76 billion to provide security agencies with 1,000 motorcycles for operations against banditry.

The Sokoto State Government approved N1.759bn for procurement of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles for distribution to security agencies to strengthen operations against banditry across the state.
The approval emerged from the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council, chaired by Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir.
The motorcycles will complement 62 armoured vehicles recently procured at N27bn and distributed to security agencies.
They are intended to enhance mobility of security personnel, particularly in difficult terrains and banditry-affected communities, forming part of efforts to equip agencies with necessary logistics to tackle criminal activities effectively.
The council stressed the importance of strengthening security operations, stating the motorcycle procurement aims to complement recently acquired armoured vehicles and enhance operational capacity of security agencies across the state.
Additional approvals include N723.17m for renovation of Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo; N498.99m for rehabilitation of A.A.
Raji Special School; N489.32m for renovation of Phase I of the College of Nursing Sciences; and N229.36m for renovation of male and female hostels at the College of Basic and Remedial Studies.
The council approved N174.64m for renovation of staff quarters and perimeter fence upgrading at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Wurno.
For healthcare, N133.67m was approved for construction of a perimeter fence at Wamakko Primary Health Centre.
The council also approved N93.88m for procurement of vocational learning equipment for 46 women's vocational centres across 23 local government areas and N90.21m for purchase of PVC pipes and plumbing fittings for maintenance of 142 semi-urban water supply schemes.
The government stated the approvals demonstrate commitment to improving security whilst investing in critical infrastructure and human development.
The council meeting reviewed issues considered important to the state's security and socio-economic development.
