Military operations in the North East have triggered a dramatic rise in the number of armed group members surrendering within just one week.

Military operations conducted by troops engaged in counter-insurgency campaigns in the North-East have generated a 213 per cent surge in the number of armed group members and affiliates surrendering to authorities within a seven-day period, according to the armed forces.
The Joint Task Force attributed the escalation to intensified military pressure on extremist organisations as troops escalate ground operations, target militant positions and sever logistics and supply pathways throughout the theatre.
Military personnel disclosed on Wednesday that the uptick in surrenders compared to the preceding week reflected sustained offensive campaigns designed to degrade militant operational capacity and constrain territorial freedom of movement.
Two prominent militant members surrendered to troops on Wednesday, relinquishing firearms, ammunition and military hardware.
The recovery of weaponry and ordnance underscored the mounting toll of sustained military pressure on group cohesion, psychological commitment and operational functionality amongst extremist formations.
Military leadership characterised the development as demonstrating the diminishing ability of militant groups to retain personnel and sustain extended operations.
Additional members surrendered to troops conducting operations in a separate location on August 7, following sustained military pressure and internal fractures within the militant hierarchy.
Surrendered individuals underwent security screening, with personal communications devices and personal items recovered prior to transfer for institutional handling in accordance with established protocols.
Military officials attributed the mounting frequency of surrenders to the compound effects of multi-faceted military strategy encompassing ground combat engagements, targeted operations and disruption of militant supply and logistics infrastructure.
Operations had eliminated militant capacity for unimpeded movement, regrouping and material replenishment, thereby degrading capacity for sustained att@cks.
The trend was characterised as reflecting cumulative consequences of sustained military pressure rather than isolated individual departures, demonstrating progressive erosion of extremist capacity and organisational coherence.
