Roadside traders in Abakpa Nike have been handed a seven day deadline as the Enugu State Government moves to clear major roads and ease traffic.

The Enugu State Ministry of Transport on Wednesday issued a seven-day deadline for roadside vendors in the Abakpa Nike axis of Enugu to shut down.
Additionally, the ministry issued a warning against one-way driving, threatening to impound and punish drivers who were caught doing so.
In a statement released in Enugu by the ministry's public relations officer, Mrs. Chinwendu Odumegwu, the State Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, issued the warning.
According to Ozor, the government has chosen a campaign to raise public awareness.
He stated that the exercise covered important thoroughfares, such as Ukwu Aki, Texaco, Nowas, T-Junction, and Nkwo, where traffic infractions and roadblocks had persisted in impeding the free flow of traffic.
He claims that while traders were given a seven-day deadline to leave roads and other blocked places, drivers and tricycle riders were made aware of the risks and consequences of driving against traffic.
He emphasized that the goal of the current exercise was to raise awareness, but he cautioned that after the grace period ended, tough enforcement and punishment of offenders will begin.
Ozor called on drivers, vendors, and locals to assist the state government in its endeavors to improve accessibility and safety in Abakpa.
"Driving in a single direction is fatal." The commissioner said, "Remain in your lane and keep the roads clear."
