7 Miners Killed as Mining Pit Collapses in Plateau

A deadly mining accident has struck Kassa in Plateau State, leaving seven miners dead and several others injured after a pit suddenly collapsed.

At the Kassa hamlet in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, a mining pit collapsed, killing seven miners.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy also injured a number of miners.

The victims were engaged in mining operations at the location when the event happened on Wednesday nite.

Albert Danlami, a community member, described the event as catastrophic, saying it happened at around 7 p.m. when the pit unexpectedly fell on the miners.

According to Danlami, after the collapse, the victims were stuck underground, so locals and other miners started working to retrieve their bodies.

He claims that after the collapse, locals fled to the mine site in a state of fear.

Our correspondent was also informed of the occurrence by Rwang Tengwong, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM).

According to Tengwong, the event claimed the lives of seven miners, who were present at the mining site when the pit fell.

After the tragedy, he stated, attempts were made to save the miners, but they were discovered dead.

According to our correspondent, numerous miners in different mining towns in Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Riyom, and other LGAs have died as a result of mining pit collapses.
