Seyi Makinde has made a major move ahead of the 2027 presidential race, unveiling a former intelligence chief as his running mate.

Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, has named former State Security Service Director-General Lawal Daura as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Daura, who headed the SSS between 2015 and 2018, was announced as the vice-presidential pick during the party's national convention in Bauchi on Thursday.
According to an official statement, Makinde deliberately selected the former intelligence chief to address the country's escalating security challenges.
Daura served as SSS director-general under then-President Muhammadu Buhari before his removal from office in 2018.
Makinde secured formal election as the APM presidential candidate at the convention, using the forum to pledge collaboration with politicians aligned with his development agenda.
He committed to working actively with like-minded political figures toward building a stronger Nigeria by 2027.
The Oyo State governor expressed readiness to lift millions of Nigerians from poverty, arguing that recent economic hardships have been exacerbated by poorly executed policies implemented over the past three years.
He outlined his preparedness to enhance living conditions across the nation.
Bauchi was selected as the convention venue in recognition of its historical significance as the birthplace of Nigeria's first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
