The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced distribution of sensitive electoral materials to all 30 local government areas of Osun State in preparation for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

A senior INEC official overseeing the Osun State election announced the distribution was underway at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Osogbo.

The official attributed delays in the distribution process to the late arrival of newly printed ballot papers and other materials from the capital following the recent inclusion of an additional political party on the ballot.

INEC initiated the distribution to guarantee that all materials reached their intended destinations before the election.

The electoral commission had earlier added a candidate and running mate from an additional political party to the ballot on Wednesday, bringing the total number of political parties contesting the election to 15.

Consequently, ballot papers for the Saturday election were being reproduced to reflect this addition.

Result sheets for the election were similarly being reprinted alongside the ballot papers to account for the inclusion of the new party's candidate.
