The Anambra State Police Command has recovered two locally fabricated weapons and three caps bearing markings connected to a secret cult group from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area.
Operatives conducting routine patrols along a bridge on Thursday made the discovery during a pursuit operation.
Officers spotted two young men riding a motorcycle without registration plates on August 13, 2026.
Upon sighting the police team, the riders made an abrupt and reckless manoeuvre in an apparent attempt to evade the operatives, prompting pursuit.
During the chase, the suspects fell from the motorcycle and abandoned it along with two footwear items and a bag before escaping into nearby vegetation.
A search of the abandoned bag yielded two fabricated weapons and three caps inscribed with markings linked to the secret cult organisation.
The command's spokesperson disclosed the recovery in a statement, indicating that efforts continue to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations and circumstances surrounding the weapon possession.
The Police Commissioner in Anambra directed officers to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The command noted its commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-driven operations and proactive policing measures aimed at disrupting criminal activities and safeguarding residents statewide.
In related developments, officers in Lagos State arrested a suspected armed offender and recovered a locally fabricated weapon alongside assorted items during routine patrols in the Igando area in July.
The arrest was disclosed as part of the command's sustained campaign against crime and criminality across the state.
