Nura Usman and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, are charged with conspiracy and attempted murder in a Magistrate Court in Nomansland, Kano.
The suspects are charged with conspiring to murder Alhaji Usman Shanono, Nura's father, at Kano's Dantsinke Quarters.
They allegedly paid an assassin ₦500,000 to carry out the murder. But instead of carrying out the task, the claimed assassin apparently told Shanono about the plan.
In order to convince the accused that the operation had been successful, Shanono and the assassin then staged his death.
According to reports, Shanono's wristwatch and other personal items were taken by the assassin and used as evidence of the suspected murder.
Following the accused's alleged announcement of Shanono's passing, family members and supporters allegedly gathered to grieve.
When Shanono showed up with security personnel and disclosed that his death had been staged, the situation allegedly took a sharp turn.
The case was then postponed by magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf until September 7, 2026, for additional procedures.
