The Attorney-General of the Federation has filed a 12-count criminal charge against an Abuja-based fertility doctor and religious leader, accusing him of unauthorised disclosure of patient medical records, commercial sale of human embryos, deceptive practices, criminal conspiracy and submission of false statements to law enforcement authorities.

Jointly charged are the fertility centre associated with the defendant and a third individual.

The charge was filed on July 21, 2026, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

The accused face allegations encompassing criminal conspiracy, conspiracy to commit fraud and provision of misleading information to police investigators.

The fertility centre operator, also identified as a pastor with a Pentecostal congregation in Abuja, had previously been charged alongside his facility in a three-count case filed by the Inspector-General of Police on January 12, 2026.

The third defendant was not included in that earlier charge.

The defendant and fertility centre were arraigned on March 11, 2026, before a court and subsequently granted bail.

The Attorney-General assumed prosecution when the matter was called on June 18, 2026, succeeding the police service.

The fresh charge outlines more substantial allegations concerning fertility services delivered at the facility.

Prosecutors contend the defendant sold nine of twelve embryos belonging to a couple to other patients.

The nine embryos comprised two male and seven female specimens.

The defendant is further accused of defrauding the couple of ₦19 million relating to fertility treatment and associated transactions.

Prosecutors allege the defendant and the third defendant represented that two male embryos had been transferred to a surrogate, though investigators reportedly gathered contradictory evidence.

The charge additionally encompasses allegations of unauthorised disclosure of patient confidential health information.

The fresh filing follows an earlier statement from the defendant's legal representative asserting that no new charges had been lodged.

The court filing now establishes a 12-count charge naming the third defendant alongside the fertility doctor and his facility.

These remain allegations contained in prosecution submissions and have not been adjudicated by the court.
