Military personnel operating under Operation Fansan Yamma have prevented a mass abduction and rescued nine civilians, including an infant, after neutralising t£rrorists who att@cked travellers in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred on Sunday when troops responded to a distress report indicating that militants, allegedly directed by a suspected network leader, had entered Unguwar Rogo Village and ambushed civilians along a transit route.
Preliminary assessment suggests the att@ck may have represented retaliation for the recent detention of suspected network collaborators intercepted whilst acquiring motorcycles and fuel to support militant operations.
TĀ£rrorists positioned themselves within a millet cultivation area bordering the route before discharged weapons at passing vehicles, causing certain drivers to lose vehicle control.
Military personnel from a designated sector mobilised to the location and engaged the assailants, preventing execution of the abduction scheme and compelling them to withdraw into surrounding forest.
Nine civilians, encompassing an infant, were recovered during the operation.
Two women sustaining gunshot wounds during the att@ck were evacuated for medical treatment and currently receive ongoing care.
