Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has commented on the employability of numerous Nigerian graduates, contending that many lack sufficient competency and subject-matter understanding in their respective disciplines.
Recounting an experience during a film production, Inojie expressed dissatisfaction with what he perceived as inadequate comprehension of an academic field by an individual he encountered.
The graduate, who had pursued Linguistics at university level as an elective course, exhibited difficulty engaging substantively about the discipline when Inojie initiated discussion, despite his own engagement with the subject as a minor component of his studies.
Inojie noted his surprise at her unfamiliarity with foundational concepts and prominent figures associated with the field.
The actor characterised the encounter as emblematic of broader concerns regarding graduate-level knowledge quality.
He acknowledged prevailing commentary that substantial proportions of contemporary Nigerian graduates lack employment readiness, suggesting such observations carry validity.
He attributed reluctance among young professionals to accept positions to insufficient foundational understanding of their studied disciplines, notwithstanding possession of formal academic credentials.
Inojie maintained that knowledge deficiency rather than employment unavailability accounts for many graduates' unwillingness to pursue career opportunities.
