Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, best known by his stage as Davido, has stated that he would bet money on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu being re-elected, citing the division among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In an interview with News Central on Tuesday, Davido said this while talking about Nigeria's political climate and the just finished Osun State governorship election.

He claims that a number of Southern leaders are already considering running for president, making it challenging for the opposition to put up a cohesive front against Tinubu.

He argued that a unified opposition could present a significant challenge to the president and questioned why the politicians were unable to unite and work toward a shared goal.

Davido stated that it would take a lot of work to improve the situation, but that there was still optimism given the results of the most recent Osun State governorship election.

"If the opposition in Nigeria is going to say, 'Okay, David, put your money down, this one, I have to decide,'" he stated. "Oh, I don't want to be involved in the presidential election" is not the answer. The opposition is split, so I might say, "Okay, I think the president might walk over on it."

There are nearly eight candidates for president in the South alone. Why can't you all take a seat together? Because, let me assure you, presidents might face difficulties if there was a cohesive opposition. However, they are not cohesive.

The musician had previously disassociated himself from Nigerian politics, claiming that the nation's political system was "evil" and that he had no interest in getting involved.

In response to criticism for his endorsement of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the just ended Osun State governorship race, Davido made the statements in a post on X.

He emphasized that he did not organize anyone or rely on outside assistance while supporting his uncle, claiming that his participation in the race was motivated by family loyalty.

"I didn't bring anyone! Nobody stood up for me! I supported my family by myself," Davido wrote.

Additionally, he denounced as "ruthless" and "disgusting" those who criticized his participation in the election.

The musician declared that he would no longer participate in political activity since he had fulfilled his obligations.

"I've completed my task! He declared, "I DON'T WANT TO BE A PART OF IT TILL GOD HELPS US. Nigerian politics is evil."

Davido was one of the well-known individuals who supported Adeleke in the Osun governorship contest.

Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress received 444,815 votes, while Adeleke, who ran on the Accord Party platform, received 511,067.
