Environmental officers in Aba have discovered about 100 bags of human feces stored in a residential building, raising serious public health concerns.

The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency found the bags at a house on Ibadan Street on Tuesday.

Four basins containing human waste were also found in a corridor of the building.

The agency immediately sealed the property to investigate the discovery.

Officials said the situation presented a serious risk of disease outbreak.

They noted that a sewage tank was found inside one of the downstairs rooms, located directly beneath a bed where residents sleep daily.

Despite being aware of the unsanitary conditions, occupants continued to use the space.

The government agency stressed that this was not just an environmental violation but a significant public health danger that could trigger an epidemic if not dealt with urgently.

The building has been sealed under a court order, and it will remain closed until proper corrective measures are taken.

The reason for storing the feces has not been established, but some residents claimed on social media that the bags were allegedly being sold to farmers for 10,000 naira per bag to use as fertiliser.
