The Kaduna State Police Command has started investigating officers shown in a video on social media allegedly taking money from motorists and tricycle riders during a checkpoint operation.

DSP Mansir Hassan, the command's spokesman, said Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad ordered that the officers involved be identified and questioned, with those found guilty facing punishment.

Hassan said the police command has reduced routine roadblocks and stop-and-search operations, except where there is solid evidence of criminal activity, weapons or banned items.

However, he noted that the location in the video is in a suburb of Millennium City and has been used by criminals before.

He said police operatives had previously recovered 20 AK-47 rifles from the same area.

Hassan stressed that no officer is allowed to use legitimate security work as a reason to extort money, harass people or act unprofessionally.

He warned that officers found guilty would face serious disciplinary action and legal consequences.

The commissioner thanked members of the public for reporting the misconduct and urged them to continue alerting authorities when police officers behave inappropriately.

People commenting on the video on social media expressed frustration, saying such incidents happen regularly across the country.

Some said they or their family members have experienced similar treatment from police officers.

Others questioned whether investigations would actually lead to change, noting that many similar checkpoints operate throughout Nigeria.

The Kaduna police command said it remains committed to professional conduct, holding officers accountable and protecting the rights and safety of state residents.
