At least nine Palestinians were killed and 15 wounded in an Israeli airstrike on police headquarters in Gaza City on Wednesday.

The strike happened during midday when the area was busy, near a crowded municipal park.

Hospital sources said most of the wounded were in critical condition.

Video footage shows ambulances arriving as people rushed to carry the dead and wounded, including a woman and a child.

An eyewitness said the military killed elderly people, children and women, then spoke about a truce.

He expressed frustration that every day brings more deaths yesterday it was the port area, today the municipal park full of children.

The Gaza government called for urgent international help to stop Israeli attacks on its police force, saying Israel was trying to weaken the police and create chaos.

A Palestinian political group said the attack was a war crime, claiming most of those killed were police officers.

They rejected Israeli claims that resistance leaders were targeted.

The group said the attack came after recent meetings aimed at advancing a ceasefire agreement.

They accused the Israeli government of deliberately trying to undermine those peace efforts.

They called on international mediators, particularly the US administration, to take immediate action to stop the escalation and pressure Israel to stick to any agreement.

An earlier airstrike on Tuesday killed at least seven Palestinians in the port area west of Gaza City.
