The government has approved buying 600 four-bedroom houses for military personnel in Abuja.
The purchase is part of a larger program to build 10,000 housing units for the armed forces over five years.
So far, 2,656 units have been delivered, leaving about 7,344 more to go.
The housing minister explained that the cost of government houses remains high because construction materials are expensive.
A block in Abuja costs around N1,000, and a house needs thousands of them.
Even though government houses look pricey on paper, the government actually subsidizes them heavily.
A house that costs N18 million to build might be sold for N12 million or even less, depending on location.
Without the subsidy, individual buyers would pay significantly more.
The government also approved a new national biotechnology policy, replacing one that's been in place since 2001.
The old policy has served Nigeria well for 25 years, but the world of biotechnology has changed dramatically. Nigeria wants to become a leader in the field, so a new strategy was needed.
The updated policy focuses on climate-smart technology, precision farming, manufacturing, gene editing and medical genomics.
Nigeria also formally joined the Global Biotechnology Partnership, which opens doors to international collaboration and investment in the sector.
The government is developing a bioenergy strategic plan as well, since Nigeria has lots of biomass and plant resources that can be converted to energy.
Council also took time to praise the peaceful conduct of the recent Osun State election.
