Teen Arrested Over Assault on 14-Year-Old in Abuja

A quiet afternoon in Bassa took a dark turn when a routine street sale led a young teenager into a calculated trap.

Airport police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of s+xually @ssaulting a 14-year-old girl in Abuja.

The incident reportedly happened on August 15 in the Sabo Masalashi area of Bassa.

The girl's mother reported the matter to police at the Airport Division.

According to police, the suspect, Benjamin Daniel, who lives in another area of the city, lured the girl into his room by saying he wanted to buy soya bean cake that she was selling.

Once she was inside, he allegedly s+xually @ssaulted her.

When police received the report, they immediately contacted the girl's parents and made sure she got medical attention.

Officers then searched for and arrested the suspect.

Police said Daniel's statement was taken in the presence of his mother, following proper procedures for handling juvenile suspects.

Police have put measures in place to protect the girl's wellbeing while the case continues.

After the investigation is finished, the suspect will be taken before a juvenile court.

The police commissioner condemned the alleged @ssault and stressed that the command has zero tolerance for s+xual violence of any kind.

She ordered officers to ensure that the victim is protected and that justice is pursued in line with the law.

Police said the investigation will follow all proper legal procedures.
