Industrialist Aliko Dangote has pledged 600 million naira through his foundation to build a hostel for female students at Lagos State University.

He also promised that first-class graduates in Engineering and Sciences will get priority when applying for jobs at his company after completing their national service.

The announcement came during the university's graduation ceremony on Friday, where LASU celebrated over 20,600 graduates from the past two academic sessions.

Dangote, represented by his daughter at the event, was honoured with an honorary doctorate degree in Entrepreneurship and Human Capital Development.

The Dangote Foundation plans to invest 70 million dollars annually over the next 10 years in education, teacher training, and technical education across Africa.

The foundation currently runs scholarship programmes and supports practical training for graduates entering the industrial sector.

The Dangote Group employs more than 52,000 people across Nigeria and 11 other African countries.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also rewarded academic excellence by donating 20 million naira each to the two overall best graduating students.

The top student from the 2024/2025 session scored a CGPA of 4.96, while the best from 2025/2026 scored 4.97.

Both graduated with first-class honours.

The university celebrated 494 first-class graduates in total across both academic sessions.

The governor highlighted his administration's investment in LASU through library complexes, lecture theatres, student housing, and over 50 other infrastructure projects funded by the state and federal governments.

Dangote was among three prominent Nigerians honoured with honorary doctorates at the convocation for their contributions to business and society.
