The Federal Government has announced that Tuesday, August 25, 2026, will be a public holiday to celebrate Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The Interior Minister announced this on Friday on behalf of the government.

The minister extended greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and those living abroad.

He urged Nigerians to use the occasion to think about the values that defined the Prophet's life compassion, humility, and serving others.

He said these qualities are what the nation needs right now and asked every Nigerian, not just Muslims, to reflect on them.

The minister also called on citizens to use the day to pray for peace and national unity, stressing that keeping the country together is everyone's responsibility.

He urged people to celebrate with respect for one another and wished the Muslim community a peaceful and joyful Eid.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the country.

All workers will have Tuesday, August 25, off to observe the holiday.
