The newly introduced airport car hire service in Lagos is facing backlash over prices that are hundreds of percent higher than regular ride-hailing apps.

A travel content creator shared a video showing he was quoted N30,000 to travel from Murtala Muhammed International Airport to a hotel in Ikeja, a journey of roughly 4 to 9 kilometres.

The creator, Chris Joondeph, said he previously paid between N6,000 and N8,000 for the same trip using Uber.

Shocked by the N30,000 quote, he walked outside the airport and ordered a ride through inDrive for N6,100 instead.

A check showed the airport platform ACHRAMS lists trips to city centre at N10,000 to N20,000 and suburban trips at N20,000 to N30,000.

For the same journey to Ikeja, Bolt charges N6,900 while Uber charges N4,200 for UberX and N5,800 for Priority.

This makes the airport fare 335 per cent higher than Bolt and over 600 per cent higher than UberX.

The price difference has sparked anger on social media with users calling it exploitation and a ripoff.

Many questioned why FAAN would ban regular ride-hailing apps from operating inside the airport only to partner with a service charging such inflated prices.

One user noted the airport is literally in Ikeja, making a N30,000 charge unrealistic.

FAAN said it did not impose a blanket ban on Uber, Bolt or other platforms.

It explained that ACHRAMS was introduced to regulate airport car-hire operations within security and regulatory frameworks, not to compete with other services.

However, travellers remain concerned about the substantial fare disparity for the same journey.

These new Lagos Airport taxis are just extorting travelers. They charged 30,000 naira from the airport to Ikeja (Radisson), while InDrive charged 6,000 for the same location. pic.twitter.com/5mMG5zE6c7
