Environmental officers in Lagos have rescued a mother and her five-month-old baby girl from a canal along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The pair were found on Wednesday during a routine cleaning operation at Abule-Ado.
The officers became concerned when they discovered the woman and infant inside the canal.
The mother could not explain why they were there.
She told the officers she was running from her husband who lives in FESTAC, but gave no clear reason for being in the canal.
The baby was in poor health when found, which alarmed the officers.
They quickly transported both mother and child to a nearby hospital for medical care.
The agency's spokesperson said the operatives acted immediately to protect both their lives and get them the help they needed.
