Lagos airport authorities have finally addressed the ₦30,000 taxi fare that sparked outrage after a traveller revealed the price online.

The airport authority has clarified that it did not create the controversial thirty thousand naira taxi fare from Lagos airport.
The fare was not newly imposed and did not come from the airport's car hire management system.
The dispute started when a travel content creator posted a video showing a thirty thousand naira quote for a trip from the airport to a hotel in Ikeja.
The post drew criticism because other platforms quoted much lower prices for the same journey six thousand nine hundred naira on one app, four thousand two hundred naira on Uber and five thousand eight hundred naira on Uber's premium option.
The airport authority said these taxi fares existed long before their car hire management system was introduced.
The rates were not substantially different from what people were paying before.
The management system was designed to improve visibility and transparency around airport taxi operations, not to set new prices.
The authority acknowledged that comparing airport taxi fares to the cheaper e-hailing options has made passengers concerned.
Many have grown used to the lower prices offered by platforms like Uber and Bolt.
The airport authority also announced that it has resolved issues with Bolt and the ride-hailing company can now operate at its airports again.
The authority emphasized that it supports competition in airport transportation and is not trying to create a monopoly.
It said its efforts to strengthen airport transportation management stem from longstanding problems including touting, unregulated operations and safety concerns that have persisted for nearly a decade.
