A family argument in Maiduguri reportedly took a shocking turn, leaving a young breastfeeding mother seriously injured and sparking intervention from authorities.

A breastfeeding mother has been hospitalized after being severely b!rnt with hot water by her stepmother in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The incident happened on Sunday after a verbal argument between the two women.
A neighbor said she heard the victim screaming and rushed over.
She found the stepmother pushing the young woman onto spilled boiling water.
The neighbor tried to stop her and pulled her away, but the victim had already suffered serious burns.
According to neighbors, the victim has faced hardship since becoming pregnant.
Her partner abandoned her and her family wanted her to end the pregnancy, but she refused.
After giving birth, neighbors said she was treated poorly and sometimes denied food whenever they argued.
The victim said the incident started when her stepmother stopped her young daughter from entering her room.
She took her child away, which caused tension.
For three days the tension continued. When the stepmother threatened to stop giving them food, the victim said she told her that God would provide.
The stepmother then allegedly rushed at her and pushed her into the boiling water.
After the att@ck, the victim was left in pain without proper medical help, according to witnesses.
But her father denied this, saying she was taken to hospital.
A government commissioner for women's affairs got involved and had the victim moved to a medical facility for treatment.
The stepmother was arrested and placed in custody.
