A bus crash in eastern Egypt has killed at least 16 people, with another 28 injured.

The accident happened on Wednesday morning on a road connecting two Red Sea towns, Dahab and Nuweiba, in South Sinai.

Twenty ambulances rushed to the scene to treat the wounded and transport them for medical care.

Among those killed were Jordanian nationals, according to reports from Egyptian and Jordanian media.

The cause of the crash is still unclear.

The road runs through an area popular with tourists from around the world.

Egypt has a serious problem with deadly road accidents.

The country recorded nearly 6,000 deaths from traffic crashes in 2025 alone.

Such accidents are commonly blamed on reckless driving and roads that are poorly maintained.

Last month, a similar tragedy struck in the north-eastern part of the country when two lorries collided, killing 18 people and injuring 30 more.
