A kidnapping operation in Abuja ended in a dramatic rescue after soldiers launched a rapid search for the wife of a retired general who had been taken from her home.

The military rescued the wife of a retired general who was taken from her home in Abuja on Tuesday, September 1.
Two suspected members of the gang involved in the abduction were also arrested, and soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
Military troops immediately began a coordinated search after the woman was taken, spreading out along different escape routes to find her and catch those responsible.
Acting on information from the public, soldiers moved through a residential area where they encountered the k!dnappers.
The suspects, faced with the military's quick response and superior weapons, abandoned the woman and ran into bushes nearby.
The woman was found and rescued at a nearby village.
To prevent the suspects from escaping, troops blocked off other possible routes and continued sweeping the area.
The following day, soldiers caught two more members of the gang near another village in the territory.
They recovered a rifle, a magazine, and ammunition from these suspects.
The military said troops were continuing to search for and track down other members of the k!dnapping gang.
The military praised residents for staying alert and working with authorities.
Officials said the military, working alongside other security agencies, would keep running intelligence-based operations aimed at breaking up criminal networks and making the capital territory safer.
