The President has said Northern Nigeria will gain the most from his administration's economic changes, pointing to better trade opportunities, improved infrastructure and the region's location near neighboring countries.
He made the remarks through a representative at a policy meeting organized by the ruling party's professionals forum.
When the President's administration took office in May 2023, it inherited serious economic problems including fuel subsidy issues, multiple exchange rates, weak revenue collection and inadequate infrastructure investment.
However, he said reforms implemented since then have started producing real results.
Government reserves have climbed to about $52.7 billion as of August 2026. Non-oil revenue increased from roughly 13.63 trillion naira in 2023 to 16.4 trillion naira in the first half of 2026.
Nigeria's trade position improved dramatically, with merchandise trade moving from a small surplus in 2023 to about 7.54 trillion naira surplus in early 2026 alone.
The economy grew by 4.43 percent in the second quarter of 2026 while inflation dropped to about 15.4 percent.
The President linked these gains to his goal of growing Nigeria's economy to one trillion dollars by 2030.
To reach that target, the government is planning major infrastructure projects including a five-port shipping corridor connecting five major port cities, major highways like the Lagos-Abuja-Kaduna-Kano route, and a proposed super highway from Calabar to Maiduguri crossing the Sahara.
The President emphasized that Northern Nigeria would benefit most because of its closeness to countries like Niger, Chad, Cameroon and other nations in the region.
These border areas will become major business hubs as trade networks expand and improve connectivity across the country.
Beyond infrastructure, the President highlighted other initiatives including a gas pipeline project, an education loan fund, technical training programs and a credit scheme.
He said these measures are meant to turn economic improvements into better living conditions for ordinary Nigerians.
Ahead of elections in 2027, he urged Nigerians to choose between continuing the reforms or reversing them, saying his party is committed to pushing forward with progress and development.
