The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Professor Ikechukwu Dozie, has warned the public about a fake social media account claiming to belong to him.

The account is not operated by the official and has no connection to him whatsoever.

The university said in a statement that the vice-chancellor does not run any personal social media account.

Anyone seeing posts from an account with his name and photograph should know it is fake.

The institution urged the public to be careful of fraudsters using fake accounts to scam people.

It warned people not to engage with such accounts, respond to messages from them, or send money, gifts or personal information to anyone operating them.

Anyone who encounters similar fake accounts should report them to the social media platform immediately and notify the university as well.

The warning comes as the university prepares to release a list of newly admitted students, a period when applicants are eagerly waiting for results.
