Anambra State is on the verge of a massive energy crisis after a crucial emergency meeting in the state capital exposed deep-seated corruption and operational chaos.

Fuel marketers in Anambra State are asking Governor Chukwuma Soludo to stop government agents from harassing them with illegal charges.
The group met in the state capital on Wednesday to discuss the problems they face.
Chinedu Anyaso, chairman of the marketers association for the region covering three states, said the governor approved an annual fee of 145,000 naira per fuel station.
This fee covers property tax and other levies that the marketers agreed to pay.
However, government agents continue to make additional illegal demands on top of this agreed amount.
Anyaso said the situation is worse in Anambra than in neighbouring states.
In Enugu State, rural stations pay between 70,000 and 80,000 naira while city stations pay 120,000 naira.
But in Anambra, everyone pays the same flat rate of 145,000 yet still face harassment.
He said the Ministry of Petroleum Resources keeps introducing new charges, including petroleum tax renewals, even though fuel trading falls under federal control.
Ikechukwu Nwankwo, the regional vice president, said Anambra has become a problem state for the marketers association.
He said the business is becoming harsh and less profitable. He noted that fuel prices have risen dramatically while their profit margins have dropped sharply.
Nwankwo warned that marketers may have to shut down operations temporarily to get the governor's attention.
Izukanne Chibuike, who represents fuel dealers in the state, complained about constant harassment from unknown government agents.
Despite these complaints, he thanked the governor for approving the harmonised fee and promised continued cooperation with the government.
