Kano’s Takutaba celebration passed without major disruption, but behind the peaceful scenes, police operations were quietly unfolding across the state.

Kano State Police have arrested seventy-nine suspects and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs following coordinated security operations during the 2026 Takutaba celebration held on September 1.
The festivities proceeded peacefully across the state thanks to intelligence-led and proactive security arrangements implemented before, during and after the celebrations.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, explained that multiple tactical units carried out the operations, including the Anti-Daba, Anti-Kidn@pping and VCRU units alongside personnel from seven police divisions spanning Ungogo, Sharada, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo, Mandawari, Kwalli and Gwale.
This coordinated approach ensured the celebration proceeded smoothly.
The police spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement that the suspects were arrested for various alleged offences, though specific charges were not detailed.
The operations resulted in recovery of weapons and illicit drugs, with suspects currently undergoing investigation.
Once investigations conclude, they will be charged to court.
Bakori commended residents for maintaining peaceful conduct and cooperating with security agencies throughout the celebration period.
