A major development project has been unveiled in Lagos, bringing healthcare, education and recreation together in one push to improve the lives of local communities.

The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals has commissioned a fifty-bed Primary Healthcare Centre, a Children's Recreational Centre and thirty-six new classrooms across Lagos State as part of efforts to translate President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible healthcare, education and social services.
The healthcare and recreational facilities are located in Egbeda, while the classroom blocks were constructed at Orisumibare Primary School.
Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant, described the projects as demonstrating an integrated approach to human development that recognises how healthcare, recreation and education work together to help children thrive.
A healthy child needs quality medical care, safe spaces to play and develop, and a proper classroom to learn, Orelope-Adefulire explained.
By bringing these three elements together, the administration is investing in children's full development and strengthening the foundations of a healthier, safer, better-educated and more inclusive society.
The fifty-bed healthcare centre is equipped with operating theatres, recovery rooms, wards, scanning and consultation areas, a delivery room, intensive care units for children and adults, laboratory facilities, ultrasound machines, emergency sections and ambulances.
The facility also includes staff quarters to ensure the centre has resident personnel available.
The centre is expected to expand access to affordable healthcare for Egbeda residents and neighbouring communities, particularly women, children, older persons and vulnerable groups.
Better access to healthcare reduces poverty pressures on families, prevents children's schooling from being disrupted and allows adults to continue earning livelihoods.
However, Orelope-Adefulire stressed that commissioning the facility marks only the beginning of responsibility for its sustainability.
Relevant authorities and communities must ensure adequate staffing, protection and maintenance so the centre continues delivering quality services over many years.
The Children's Recreational Centre represents an investment in children's physical, mental, social and emotional development.
Play is not a luxury but essential to childhood, enabling children to develop physically and emotionally while encouraging creativity, teamwork, healthy habits and positive social interaction.
The centre will provide safe spaces where children build friendships and develop belonging, particularly benefiting girls, children with disabilities and those from vulnerable households.
The thirty-six new classrooms at Orisumibare Primary School ease pressure on existing infrastructure and create a more conducive teaching environment.
The investment contributes to quality education and expands opportunities for children regardless of their social and economic backgrounds.
Speakers emphasised that the true value of classrooms lies not in their walls but in the dreams nurtured within them and the futures transformed through learning.
The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, described the projects as significant investments in community futures.
He thanked President Tinubu and Orelope-Adefulire for the interventions and pledged the council's support for proper utilisation and maintenance.
Johnson also acknowledged the traditional rulers who supported the projects, highlighting the importance of collaboration among the Federal Government, local authorities, traditional institutions and communities in delivering sustainable grassroots development.
