Two heartbreaking discoveries have drawn attention in Abuja after residents heard the cries of newborn babies in separate locations on the same night.

The Federal Capital Territory Police have rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents in Abuja on Wednesday.
A baby boy was discovered wrapped in cloth and left in a carton box around Obodo Street in Kurudu at about 5:30 pm, while a baby girl was found abandoned outside a resident's gate in Gwagwalada at approximately 9:40 pm the same evening.
In the first incident, a resident identified as Innocent heard the baby's cries, discovered the infant and reported the matter to Kurudu Police Station at 5:45 pm.
Officers from the station alongside personnel from the Juveniles and Women Care Department promptly went to the scene and rescued the baby boy.
He was taken to a nearby hospital for medical assessment and is currently in stable condition. Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the abandonment.
In the second incident, a resident named Ibrahim heard a baby girl crying outside his gate and, assisted by other community members, rescued her.
He reported the matter to Gwagwalada Police Station around 10:15 pm.
The baby girl was taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital by the Juveniles and Women Care Department for medical examination and is receiving care pending handover to the Social Welfare Development for further support.
Police are working to identify the mothers and family members of both children.
The Police Public Relations Officer commended Innocent, Ibrahim and other community members for their swift action and prompt reporting.
