Cameras at Asian Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar caught the chaotic moments when staff rushed to move newborn babies out of the intensive care ward after smoke started spreading just after midnight.

The smoke appears to have been caused by an electrical fault.

As soon as staff noticed it, they sprang into action, quickly moving the babies away from the dangerous area.

Video footage shows staff members hurrying in and carrying the infants to safety while smoke filled the ward.

Nine newborns were evacuated from the unit, along with dozens of other patients from across the hospital as a safety precaution.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident.

The hospital staff's quick thinking meant the vulnerable babies were moved to safety before things could get worse.

The evacuation has sparked concerns about the hospital's electrical systems and how prepared it was for an emergency like this.

An investigation is now underway to figure out exactly what caused the smoke and whether the hospital followed all its fire-safety rules properly.

The footage has highlighted just how fast the staff reacted, moving the newborns to safety within moments of the emergency starting.
