Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 20-year-old man accused of s3xually @ssaulting a seven-year-old girl and stealing from her.
Isiyaku Usman allegedly lured the child into an uncompleted building in Kari village on Sunday, September 6, where he @ssaulted her and took two mobile phones she was carrying.
The girl had been on her way to a nearby house when Usman, who lives in the same area, stopped her.
The girl's father reported what happened to police that afternoon.
Detectives moved quickly and found Usman with the stolen phones.
He and the child were both taken to Darazo General Hospital for medical checks and evidence collection.
Usman has reportedly confessed to the crime and is in custody while the investigation continues.
The Police Commissioner strongly condemned the incident, calling it a senseless and cruel act.
He ordered the case to be transferred to the Gender Laboratory of the state's Criminal Investigation Department for more detailed work.
Once investigations wrap up, Usman will be taken to court.
Police reminded parents, guardians and community members to keep close watch over children's safety and movements, saying they have zero tolerance for sexual violence in the state.
The command assured the public the case would be handled strictly according to the law.
