The Dangote Petroleum Refinery already produces 700,000 barrels of oil a day and is Africa's biggest refinery and the world's largest single-train facility.

Dangote announced this at a signing ceremony on Monday for the refinery's planned stock market listing.

He said the journey to build the refinery took more than a decade and wouldn't have happened without support from banks who backed the project long before they even saw the site or had a licence.

Dangote stressed that when you stay focused and determined, nothing is impossible to achieve.

The billionaire said his group's mission is to speed up Africa's industrialisation and that energy security is critical to that goal.

That's why Dangote Group is expanding its industrial projects across Africa, with new investments announced in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Namibia.

On the stock offering, Dangote said the shares will be open to everyone no investor group will have exclusive access.

He wants every African to have the chance to own a piece of the refinery and benefit from its success.

The refinery's chief executive David Bird said the facility supplies Nigeria and West African markets while also sending products to Europe.

It's a major supplier of jet fuel to European countries and its products have reached international markets.

The refinery can process different types of crude oil and has performed well over the past six months, helping offset some of the supply problems caused by conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Bird said the planned expansion has already been fully designed and paid for, with construction now the main remaining work.
