Nigerians living abroad can now travel back home with an expired passport and renew it after they arrive, according to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

With the holiday season around the corner, the NIS pointed out that visiting home for December is a great chance for diaspora Nigerians to renew their passports locally, which is often easier than waiting for an appointment overseas.

Addressing concerns about passport processing in the UK, the agency clarified that standard appointments at the High Commission in London are running normally alongside their special passport outreach program.

Spokesman Akinsola Akinlabi also reminded citizens that the contactless passport app is up and running.

This means anyone who wants to skip the physical office visit can handle their renewal completely online through the app.
