Zamfara is taking a major step toward changing how healthcare is managed, with one major hospital becoming the first to embrace a new digital system.

Zamfara State Government has taken a major step toward modernising healthcare by digitising General Hospital Gusau, marking the beginning of automation across all general hospitals in the state.
The Gusau facility is the first of seven general hospitals being upgraded with digital systems, with hospitals in Anka, Maru, Kauran Namoda, Maradun, Nasarawa Burkullu and Yariman Bakura to follow.
The digitisation is part of the Governor's Digital Transformation Agenda aimed at revolutionising how healthcare is managed and delivered across Zamfara.
The new systems will connect to an existing digital platform for managing medicine and medical supplies, creating a unified system that tracks inventory throughout the supply chain, improves accountability and ensures hospitals have needed supplies when required.
The digital transformation will modernise hospital operations, improve record-keeping and documentation, boost accountability and make services more efficient.
It will cut down on manual paperwork, reduce delays, give better access to patient information, strengthen revenue monitoring and provide reliable data for planning and decision-making.
The goal goes beyond simply putting computers in hospitals but rather using technology to enhance patient records, support better clinical decisions, strengthen accountability and ultimately improve the quality of care people receive.
The achievement came through collaboration between the state Ministry of Health, Hospital Services Management Board, state revenue service, Primary Healthcare Board and the Drugs Management Agency.
