Lagos Opens AFA Bridge Lane After Years of Flooding and Road Woes

The Lagos State Government has opened the inbound section of the AFA Bridge on Agric-Isawo Road in Ikorodu to traffic, bringing relief to residents who have suffered from flooding and poor road conditions.

The opening followed an inspection of road and bridge projects in the area.

Olufemi Daramola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, visited the sites alongside Olutokunbo Oyenuga, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Infrastructure, and other officials.

Olufemi Daramola said the completed section allows drivers to avoid the flooded areas while work continues on the outbound side of the bridge.

Olufemi Daramola said motorists should obey temporary traffic management rules, follow speed limits and avoid reckless driving since the area is still a construction zone.

Olufemi Daramola also told drivers to avoid unlawful bus stops and passenger loading areas around the bridge to keep traffic moving smoothly.

He advised pedestrians to use designated walkways and stay away from construction sites.

Abiodun Sunday, the General Secretary of the CDC Ikorodu West LCDA Road Committee, called the opening a relief after years of struggle.

Abiodun Sunday said residents no longer have to drive through floodwater or climb stairs to reach the bridge.

Sikiru Aregbeshola, the Baale of Itowolo, praised the government for fixing the Itowolo Bridge, which had been in poor condition and a major concern for residents.

At Mile 12, the inspection team also visited the Maidan-Patele Link Bridge and Approach Roads.

Residents said the project would provide safer access after they were forced to use canoes when the old pedestrian bridge failed.

Olufemi Daramola urged residents to take care of the infrastructure, saying the money used to build it comes from taxpayers and should be managed well.
