Parents Petition Ministry Over Alleged Extortion and Disruptive Policies at Federal Girls College

Concerned parents of a federal government girls college have petitioned the education ministry to investigate the new principal over allegations of high-handedness, extortion and disruptive policies.

The petition, signed by Mrs Clara Ihejirika, says the principal Mrs Gladys Ozoemena Onyeguiri has transferred many staff members within four months of taking office.

Those transferred include the VP for Student Affairs, VP for Student Affairs 2, VP for Academics 1, Head of Social Studies and the Assistant Director, all between August 2 and August 20, 2026.

The parents also questioned the firing of a part-time mathematics teacher identified as Mr Mich, saying it was unjust and that the teacher has filed legal action to challenge the termination.

Mrs Clara Ihejirika called on the ministry to investigate whether due process was followed.

The parents complained about charges imposed on graduating students for clearance forms.

Clearance forms were previously free but now students are being charged between 1,000 and 2,000 naira, with a staff member reportedly collecting the money while students provide A4 sheets.

The parents also raised concerns about disciplinary charges of between 100,000 and 120,000 naira imposed on six students, saying such amounts appear too high and may not be proportionate to the violations.

They argued that other approved measures like supervised manual labour or counselling should be considered instead.

However, the school's PTA public relations officer KingDavid Anokwuru denied the allegations, saying the PTA chairman is acting unilaterally and fighting back because the principal refused to compromise standards and blocked financial leakages.

KingDavid Anokwuru said the principal restored order and accountability and urged parents and old students to visit the school and speak to students to verify the facts themselves.
