Former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has been appointed to temporarily lead the Super Falcons as Nigeria begins its push to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Augustine Eguavoen will take charge during crucial second-round matches against Comoros in October while the Nigeria Football Federation searches for a permanent head coach.
Christopher Danjuma, who coaches Nasarawa Amazons and previously led the Falconets at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, will assist him.
Olatunji Baruwa, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, has been named goalkeeper coach.
Ayisat Yusuf, a former Super Falcons defender who earned 68 international caps and played in four Women's Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, completes the coaching team as assistant coach.
Nigeria will face Comoros in a two-legged second-round tie with both matches at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and 13, 2026.
Nigeria received a bye to the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in qualifying. Comoros advanced after crushing Sudan 30-0 across two legs.
Nigeria must win four rounds of two-legged knockout matches to secure one of two African spots at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
If Nigeria beats Comoros, they face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco in the third round between February 23 and March 6, 2027.
The fourth round happens October 4 to 12, 2027 and the final stage is November 23 to December 4, 2027.
