Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has warned political parties and their supporters not to use hate speech, threats, intimidation or violence as the 2027 governorship campaign gets underway.
The governor made the appeal through his spokesman at a press conference in Kano marking the official start of the campaign.
He told political parties and candidates to compete based on their ideas, policies, records and programmes instead of attacking and insulting each other.
Yusuf warned people against damaging property or doing anything that could threaten the peace the state is currently enjoying.
He asked his own supporters to stay disciplined, respect different views and not allow themselves to be provoked into actions that could cause trouble.
The governor also appealed to bloggers, social media influencers, journalists and online users to check information before sharing it.
He warned them not to spread false news, rumours and inflammatory content that could stir up problems.
Yusuf called on security agencies to remain professional, fair and watchful throughout the campaign period.
He also asked political parties to work with security agencies and follow the law.
The governor assured residents that his administration would keep providing public services and working on development projects despite all the political activities.
He said Kano is bigger than any political party or person, and that politicians would still be citizens of the state after the election is over.
He urged everyone to campaign with respect, compete fairly with ideas, disagree without resorting to violence and put what is good for Kano above political differences.
