Comedian AY has shared a story about receiving a message from Afrobeats star Asake back in 2019, years before the singer became a global success.
AY attended Asake's sold-out concert in Houston, Texas, as part of the singer's tour and decided to reflect on their connection.
In a video posted online, AY revealed that Asake had sent him a direct message on Instagram in 2019 asking for his support, but he didn't see it at the time.
AY showed the message in the video.
In it, Asake introduced himself as Ololade and asked the comedian to support his music, writing that AY's approval of his song would mean a lot for his career.
Asake ended the message by asking AY to help him and wishing blessings on him and his family.
AY made clear that he was not telling the story to claim credit for Asake's rise.
He said the credit belongs to God, Asake's talent and the hard work he has put in over the years.
Watching Asake perform in front of thousands of people at the Houston concert reminded AY of how far the singer has come.
AY said the moment carried an important lesson about how people should treat others who approach them seeking opportunities and support.
He advised people to respect others' dreams and never look down on anyone because no one knows what the future holds.
The person asking for help today could become someone the world celebrates tomorrow, he said.
After the concert, Asake's team brought AY backstage where the singer greeted him personally.
AY praised Asake's performance and said the singer's humility remained clear despite his success.
He congratulated Asake and said Nigeria, Africa and the world were celebrating the singer's achievements.
