A minor fire broke out at the Idu Train Station in Abuja on Wednesday evening, but it was quickly brought under control.

The fire started in the station's low-voltage electrical room at around 8:30 pm because of an electrical fault.

Station maintenance workers discovered it and contained it fast.

Some electrical cables connected to the station's control panels were damaged in the incident.

However, the station's backup solar power system was not affected.

Power has been temporarily restored to the lifts and escalators.

Out of 29 facilities at the station, 28 are currently working.

The railway authority said the fire will not affect train services between Abuja and Kaduna.

Trains will continue running on their normal schedule.

The railway's technical team is now conducting a detailed assessment to find out what caused the electrical fault and fix the damaged installations.

The Abuja electricity company has also been notified and will help with technical support as needed.
