A 58-year-old Nigerian clergyman has been k!lled in Johannesburg, South Africa, in what authorities are treating as a murder case.
Bishop Taiwo Michael Fakunle, from Ekiti State in Nigeria, was sh@t multiple times at his home in Kensington on Friday, September 4.
According to the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa, two suspects broke into his residence and opened fire on him, striking him more than seven times.
The association's national leader said the k!lling has devastated Fakunle's family and the entire Nigerian community in South Africa.
He described the incident as a horrific and senseless act of violence that has robbed a family of a loved one and the Nigerian community of another life lost to violent crime in the country.
The association reported the case to Nigeria's Consulate General in Johannesburg, and a murder investigation has been opened at the local police station.
The association is now calling on South African authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to find out exactly what happened, identify everyone involved, arrest the suspects, and ensure they face justice in court.
The association has also asked Nigerian diplomats in South Africa to keep working with local authorities and monitor how the investigation progresses until justice is served.
