The wife of the Abia State Governor, Priscilla Otti, has given 20 million Naira and food items to 400 women living with disabilities.
She shared these gifts on Friday during a special gathering held in Umuahia, the state capital.
Speaking through her charity group, the Safe Tent Care Initiative, Mrs. Otti explained that the help was meant to ease the current economic hardship.
She said the event was just the beginning and promised that her office would continue to support them regularly.
She also noted that the outreach was organized so that women with disabilities would feel included, just like other women who attended the recent August Meeting.
Mrs. Otti pointed out that people living with disabilities face many tough challenges every day, including lack of jobs, poor health care, difficulty moving around, and public stigma.
She explained that her team has been working closely with the disability community since 2023.
According to her, over 600 people received food and cash in 2024, while about 100 disabled business owners got financial help in 2025.
To build on this work, her office has partnered with the National Directorate of Employment to train 200 women in useful job skills and give them startup tools.
A good number of slots will be kept specifically for women living with disabilities.
She added that Abia State will soon launch its own community food bank to help widows, the elderly, nursing mothers, and disabled residents.
Government officials at the event, including the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Blessing Ngozi Felix, and the Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters, David Anyaele, commended the governor's wife.
They noted that the administration is focused on long-term empowerment rather than just short-term hand-outs.
