The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority Board has voted unanimously to rename Nashville International Airport in honor of country music legend Dolly Parton.

The decision comes following the singer's passing on August 25 at the age of 80.

The board's vote follows a proposal by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, who praised Parton as a state icon whose musical and philanthropic legacy welcomed people from all walks of life.

Airport authorities will now collaborate with the Dollywood Foundation to work out the official new title and integrate her branding throughout the airport.

While exact costs for the rebranding have not been released, previous estimates for airport name changes in Nashville have run over 10 million dollars.

Once completed, the airport will stand as a lasting tribute to the East Tennessee native famous for hits like "Jolene" and her global literacy efforts through the Imagination Library.
